The Author/Speaker Alliance -- What Is It?
The Arizona unit of the Author/Speaker Alliance (A/SA - Phoenix) is a membership organization of local  area authors and entrepreneurs, developed by and for professional communicators and working to bring increased expression to the craft and social impact of writing by extending the outreach of our Member authors into the community via public speaking opportunities -- mostly for a fee but fully negotiable by each author with the meeting planners who seek his or her speaking services. There is no charge -- ever -- for clubs, associations, organizations and institutions to use A/SA services. Our members support us by paying annual dues for their listings and to receive other A/SA benefits, and each speaker negotiates directly with engagement sponsors with regard to the fee that he or she may charge for speaking.

A/SA's missions are:

To present each speaker fairly, honestly and accurately -- via our website Speaker Directory and on individual web pages describing each author's works and credentials, rate scale and speaking subject matter; and

To reach out to the community to identify and inform local clubs, organizations, associations, churches, libraries, schools, colleges and other employers of professional speakers that this rich resource of information, education and entertainment exists and is ready to serve local needs.

We look forward to serving and connecting both communities.

. . . and Who Is A/SA?

The steady hand guiding A/SA is that of Paul McNeese, whose long literary history (first book published  in 1984) and shorter but no less revealing career as a publisher, book packager and book distributor (OPA Publishing -- founded in 2002 -- of Chandler, AZ) has shown him two very important things; specifically, that:
authors and business writers are unique and valuable resources -- both through  their writings and in their communities, and
such people tend to undervalue themselves in ways that can damage their careers, lessen their personal income potential -- and actually make them less valuable as resources when they speak in public, since they will consistently fail to develop large, interested audiences.

Emerging directly from these two notions was the perception that authors may need easy-to-implement ways to create exposure in the marketplace and to bring an awareness of their true value to people who might benefit from their expertise and their ability to communicate their knowledge and experience.

The result, which evolved from his "learning the ropes" via considerable promotional work with authors he has published or assisted over the years, is the Author/Speaker Alliance.

In case you're curious about whether Paul really plays the guitar, the answer is, "Yes, but these days, just for fun." He is mostly busy showing authors how to make the most of their gifts and how to maximize the efficiency and outcome of their marketing efforts.
